How Search Engines Work

To understand how search engines work, you must understand what their purpose is.

Search engines were created because of content. Search engines essentially organizes the online world’s content so that content and digital information can be found by searchers like you and me.  This is the purpose of search engines.

Now, to understand how search engines view content a basic understanding of what the search engine’s model on how they monetize their online search tools.

One way search engines make their money is by selling ad space on their search engine interfaces and search results. They sell ad space to businesses, people, and organizations to drive traffic to their respective websites, blogs, e-commerce stores, listings, etc.

But the question to know the answer to is, “how do search engines get people to use their particular search engine?” Search engines need people to use their website in order to be profitable and desirable for businesses, people, blogs, etc. to purchase ad space. So, one of the goals for search engines is to make their search engine tools user friendly and produce quality, relevant, and authoritative search results for people’s search queries.

So, search engines companies try to build their algorithms to fulfill the above criteria for their users. And unique, authoritative, and relevant content is one of the factors search engines look for when determining search results for respective search queries.

Search engine companies want to provide users with quality search results not just one-liner web pages with pop ups and spammy content. If those types of web search results come up, no one would use the search engines. So search engines have an incentive to push up the quality webpages and/or websites that contain the unique, authoritative, and relevant content.

For example, if you were to search for “plumbing service“, you will get results for your local plumbing service companies. How does the search engines know which companies to show? The business website’s content. That is why we say and emphasize that content is king!

Do Not Copy Writing For Copy!

For collegiate students going for their master’s degree, copying another person’s master dissertation is not a very good idea. Not only is it plagiarism and is frowned upon, but it does more harm to a student than it does any good. And this goes for the online world as well.

Copying content is a huge “no, no” in the online world especially for the search engines and search engines are just that, engines that basically run the internet’s information. And it hurts your website, blog, e-commerce store, social media page, etc., a lot on the search engine’s rankings.
